Our journey began with a simple but powerful moment of observation: our coral reefs were under attack. Apart from rising sea-water temperature and climate change, predators like Crown-of-Thorns Starfish (COTS) have had a devastating impact on the world's most important natural ecosystems.
Although many organisations and governments are taking active steps, the lack of a sustainable, long term solution supported by community and industry limits the outcomes.

The long term solution for the COTs problem lies in solving another big problem: the inefficient and unsustainable production of biomaterials. The discussion around reef degradation inspired a simple but transformative question:
What if the ecological predators damaging coral reefs could instead become a sustainable source of high-value biomaterials?
That idea became the foundation of Leap Biotech.
By transforming an environmental threat into a valuable resource, we saw an opportunity to protect marine ecosystems while creating a cleaner, more sustainable future for biomaterial production.

Over the following months, we partnered with world-leading experts in biomaterials, marine science, and biotechnology to develop an innovative process for producing premium biomaterials from sustainably sourced Crown-of-Thorns Starfish.
In 2025, Leap Biotech was founded with a clear mission:
To develop sustainable biomaterials while contributing to the restoration and protection of coral reef ecosystems.
Today, we're advancing a new generation of high-quality biomaterial products that combine scientific innovation with environmental stewardship.
Every step we take is guided by our belief that biotechnology can create value from environmental challenges—helping industries access sustainable materials while supporting healthier oceans for generations to come.
